PlayStation 5 Launching at the End of 2020

Rumours surrounding the PlayStation 5 have been floating around for some time now, with Sony remaining fairly tight-lipped on any potential launch window since their confirmation of the console’s existence in April. In an article over on the PlayStation blog, Jim Ryan, president of SIEE reveals that we won’t have to wait too long for the next generation of PlayStation.

Not only confirming that the next entry in the PlayStation family will be named the “PlayStation 5” – which is hardly a surprise, he also released some new information on the next DualShock.

The company aims to “deepen the feeling of immersion when you play games” by replacing the traditional rumble feature with haptic feedback. He goes on to explain how they’ve also incorperated “adaptive triggers” in the L2 and R2 trigger buttons. This will allow developers to specifically program the feedback sensation in games – an example he used was the sensation of drawing an arrow in a bow or accelerating through rough terrain in an off-road vehicle.

The main announcement, however, was the release date for the PlayStation 5, with Sony aiming to launch it during the holiday period of 2020; which really isn’t all that far away. Exciting stuff!
