Season Pass Scrapped in New Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Planned Cross Play Support

Over the last few years, the Call of Duty series has started to feel stale and rehashed – at least – that’s how it feels. With yesterday’s announcement, it seems that things could be looking up for the series.

Confirmed to be a reboot of the Modern Warfare franchise, this newer entry looks to be going back to its root. In the trailer, the familiar gruff voice of Captain Price can be heard “The rules have changed. There’s a fine line between right and wrong, and somewhere in the shadows they send us in to find them.” as he and his team do what they do best. Visually, the game looks fantastic – especially as the trailer is all in-game footage.

Activision has also announced plans to offer crossplay between PC and consoles (though whether or not Sony is in on this is yet to be seen) as well as doing away with pricy season passes; instead opting to provide more free maps and updates to all players to prevent fracturing the community.

“We are creating an emotionally charged experience that’s inspired by the headlines in the world today, where the rules are grey and battle lines are blurred,” Infinity Ward co-studio head Dave Stohl said. “Players will join a varied cast of international special forces and freedom fighters in gripping and heart-pounding missions through iconic European cities and volatile expanses of the Middle East. It’s intense, it’s exciting, and we can’t wait for our fans to play this October.”

As of yet, we’ve not seen any footage from the games multiplayer, this will be shown at a later date.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is scheduled for release on the 25th of October 2019 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
